The UMass Amherst Electron Microscopy Center is located in the Silvio O. Conte National Center for Polymer Research at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. It is equipped with several Transmission (TEM) and Scanning Electron Microscopes(SEM) as well as related sample preparation equipment for the use of the UMass community as well as external customers.
While the the EM facility located in Conte originally focused on soft materials it developed into a interdisciplinary campus-wide resource for both materials and life sciences research especially through the consolidation of the Polymer W.M. Keck Electron Microscopy Facility and the Central Biological Electron Microscopy Facility in 2014. Like most major core facilities on the UMass Amherst campus the Center is administered under the umbrella of the Institute for Applied Life Sciences (IALS) and is assessable under the Center for UMass-Industry Research on Polymers (CUMIRP).
